Event/Life Situation:

1.       Hospitalization Unplanned life events can happen to anyone. This is when I decided I wanted to be a Social Worker. Skill(s) Acquired: Optimism; Resourcefulness

2.       Resource Acquisition class;  NAMI Ohio internship Discovered many ways to attain resources and funds for a project or program. Skill(s) Acquired: Adaptability

3.       Volunteering at NNEMAP food pantry Mental Illness is everywhere. Skill(s) Acquired: Humility

4.       Mercy Outreach internship; High school Leo Club Poverty can affect anyone. State programs and Community Mental Health systems can be very confusing to individuals seeking services, especially when they're in a crisis. Skill(s) Acquired: Persistence; Dedication

5.       Tent City Homelessness is not a black and white circumstance. So many people just like you and I are homeless; homelessness affects everyone. Skill(s) Acquired: Empathy

6.       NAMI Ohio internship- answering Helpline calls

This experience brought mental illness home to me. Normal life activities can be so hard for some. Listening to the "hearing Voices" audio allowed me to hear family stories of struggling with a loved one's mental illness; mental illness affects the whole family. Skill(s) Acquired: Problem solving; Empathy
